We depart from Puerto Natales heading towards Torres del Paine National Park via Route 9. After approximately an hour and a half of travel, we will arrive at the Laguna Amarga entrance, where we will register at the CONAF facilities. From there, we’ll continue to the Welcome Center of the Las Torres Reserve, where our guides will provide a briefing while we get ready for our first activity: the hike to the Base Torres Viewpoint.
This trek is the most famous within the park and also one of the most renowned in the world. Along the way, we’ll be accompanied by our guides on a round-trip hike of approximately 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) over the course of about 8 hours. The trail is of medium-high difficulty and will gradually immerse us in a true mountain environment.
Once we reach the Base Torres Viewpoint, located at 870 meters above sea level, we’ll enjoy a box lunch while taking in the spectacular view of the South, Central, and North Towers (De Agostini, Central, and Monzino), along with the lagoon and Torres Glacier. We will then descend along the same trail back to the Welcome Center, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us to Camping Pehoé, located in the heart of the national park beside the lake of the same name. This lake is famous for its turquoise waters and offers a privileged view of the Paine Massif. Here is where our campsite and dome are located, which we’ll use as a base for planning our outings. Upon arrival, our camp team will welcome us with a snack and drinks made from regional products. In the evening, we’ll have dinner at the Camping Pehoé restaurant, where we can choose from three main course options. Overnight accommodation will be at our equipped and pre-set tents at the campsite. The following morning, after a restorative night’s rest, we’ll have breakfast at the Camping Pehoé restaurant and receive our box lunch for the day before starting the second day’s activities.
After breakfast, we’ll head by vehicle to the Pudeto area to board the catamaran, which will take us on a 25-minute sail across Lake Pehoé toward the dock at the Paine Grande Lodge. During the journey, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the Paine Massif and the Salto Grande waterfall.
Once we disembark, we’ll prepare to begin a round-trip trek of approximately 22 kilometers (13.7 miles) over about 8 hours, along a trail of low to medium difficulty that follows the shoreline of Lake Skottsberg. Upon reaching the Italiano Camp area, we’ll take a short break to eat and rest before heading into the French Valley a formation that reveals evidence of intense glacial activity from the past. In this area, we’ll enjoy unique views of the Paine Massif from its southwestern face and surrounding peaks, until we reach the viewpoint offering a breathtaking panorama of the French Glacier in all its splendor. If we’re lucky, we may witness an avalanche. After having lunch (box lunch) and resting, we’ll begin the return hike along the same trail, then board the catamaran back to the Pudeto area, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to the Pehoé area. There, a snack will be waiting for us at our dome, followed by an excellent dinner at the Camping Pehoé restaurant. We’ll spend the night at our camp.
After breakfast, we’ll leave our campsite in Pehoé and head to the Pudeto area to wait for the catamaran that will take us across to the Paine Grande sector, where we’ll begin our hike toward the Grey Glacier Viewpoint.
Once we disembark, we will prepare to start the 22 km round-trip trek, which will take approximately 8 hours along a medium-difficulty trail, passing through a lenga forest and enjoying various views of Paine Grande and Grey Lake. We will hike until we reach the viewpoint, where we will have lunch (box lunch), rest, and appreciate nature in all its splendor.
We will return along the same trail to the Paine Grande Lodge and board the catamaran to sail back to the Pudeto area, from where we will begin our journey back to Puerto Natales.
