The Valle del Francés viewpoint, located in the middle of the renowned W Circuit, is an excursion that offers the opportunity to appreciate a unique geological formation due to its distinctive features. We will take you through an environment full of flora and fauna, with excellent panoramic views of this part of Torres del Paine National Park. An ideal excursion for nature lovers and photographers.
We depart in our vehicle from your accommodation in Puerto Natales, heading towards Torres del Paine National Park via Route 9.
After 1.5 hours of travel, we will arrive at Laguna Amarga Entrance, where we will register with CONAF and head to the Pudeto sector, where at 8:30 a.m. we will board the catamaran that will take us on a 25-minute navigation across Lake Pehoé, enjoying excellent views of the Paine Massif and the Salto Grande, until we reach the Paine Grande Refuge area.
After our guide's induction talk, we will prepare to begin our 22 km round trip trek, lasting approximately 8 hours, along the famous medium-difficulty trail initially used by settlers and later by the first climbing expeditions. We will depart from the refuge, following the northern shore of Lake Pehoé with its characteristic turquoise waters towards Campamento Italiano, which is 7 km away. We will skirt the tranquil Lake Sköttberg while enjoying excellent views of the Cuernos del Paine.
Once we arrive at Campamento Italiano, the gateway to the valley, we will rest for a moment before continuing our gradual ascent through a lenga forest (Nothofagus pumilio), flanked by the Río del Francés, until we reach the first viewpoint, which allows us to appreciate the valley in all its grandeur and get our first views of the glacier.
We will continue our route until we reach the Mirador del Valle del Francés, located at 490 meters above sea level, to contemplate this interesting geological formation that demonstrates the power of the advance and retreat of glaciers. Here, we will enjoy unique views of the Glaciar del Francés, the Macizo Paine from its southwestern face, and the other mountains that are part of the Macizo Paine. From this privileged location, we will have our box lunch, rest, and appreciate nature in all its splendor.
We will return along the same trail to the Refugio Paine Grande, where we will board the catamaran between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM for the return trip to the Pudeto sector, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Puerto Natales.
Return to the city:
